Dustin Delaney will be riding his bike to the University of Louisville campus this fall as increased parking permit prices have forced him to consider alternate modes of transportation.

"If you buy a green pass, you are not guaranteed a green spot," said Delaney, a senior mechanical engineering major. "Every semester it seems like we lose more parking spaces."

Jan Rayburn walked into a meeting with Student Activities Director Tim Moore this past May with a job.

When the meeting was over, her situation had changed considerably.

Moore informed her that because of the $136,000 cut the Student Affairs division for the University of Louisville was being asked to make, Rayburn's position with Commuter Student Services was being eliminated and so was that of her co-worker, Barbara King, the former assistant director of CSS. As a result, CSS was closing.

The University of Louisville College of Education and Human Development has garnered a lot of attention lately, but it's not the latest U.S. News & World Report's rankings people are talking about.

Former Dean Robert Felner is under investigation for misuse of grant money, specifically a $694,000 No Child Left Behind grant, secured in 2005. On June 20, armed federal agents loaded boxes and computers from the dean's office at CED into black SUVs.

Like the other makeovers around the University of Louisville, their promotional items have changed too. The Times New Roman font of the former U of L logo is now replaced with Delta Jaeger. Who can blame them for the new logo that was released earlier this year? That thick, sans-serif-like font can catch a student or visitor's eye.

College and alcohol have been synonymous for years. Whether it's a wild party or a simple drink among friends, liquid courage is as much a part of college culture as textbooks and study halls. Still, there are many consequences to be endured when college students go too far and put themselves in danger due to irresponsible drinking. According to the Journal of Studies on Alcohol, one in five college students meets the criteria for alcohol abuse or dependence.

By his own admission, Vince Cain was "all over the place" on Friday night at the Red Barn.

When he wasn't preparing food or organizing canned goods, he was working with the seven bands the venue featured that night or working the door.

If he didn't get to stop and enjoy the music for a moment or munch on the food arrangement offered, it was because he was busy ensuring the success of Lambda Chi Alpha's first annual Chopstock music festival, an event that collected funds and canned goods to benefit Dare to Care food bank.

The University of Louisville listened.
Ah, finally some attention.
They listened to the grumbles of stomachs and the voices of a concerned student body.
Changes to U of L's food service provider, from Chartwell's to Sodexo, is a positive step forward in the right direction.

Upcoming game will be road less traveled

When the University of Louisville football team takes the field Saturday, it will be facing an opponent that it has no business playing.

It's not because the opponent is from a lower level conference, or because their stadium isn't even close to beng half the size of Louisville's. It doesn't have anything to do with win/loss record, how good the defense is, or who is taking snaps at quarterback.
