When University of Louisville track and field head coach Ron Mann walked into Beijing National Stadium, he found 90,000 people staring back at him.
Mann, who served as the men's middle distance coach for Team USA at the Olympics this past summer, was near the front row of the Team USA contingent as they walked into the stadium - better known as the Bird's Nest - at the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic games.

A case of ‘the Saturdays’

Inspired nearly 30 years ago by the TV mini-series "Roots," the Saturday Academy is a program that has allowed Louisvillian's the opportunity to learn more about black history through the University of Louisville.
Though the program took a while to win over the public, it eventually took off through the Duvall Education Center nearly 13 years after it was conceived. However, the program was abruptly ended in 2002; recently, Dean of Arts and Sciences, J. Blaine Hudson has helped to "take this old idea and put it back on the table."

2:15 p.m., sitting in class with a painful distraction:  plumber's crack.
The professor is preaching about something very crucial to a student's academics. However this outrageous calamity is in view. The exposed girl is very nice and certainly fashionable and trendy. But gravity, as it tends to do, has slipped its sneaky thumbs into her belt loops and created this unfortunate spectacle.

Although he spent most of his time as the assistant coach for the Romanian swim team, Arthur Albiero, University of Louisville swimming and diving coach, simply couldn't pass up the numerous tourist destinations that China had to offer.
"Certainly, if you like athletics I don't know if there's a better place to be than the Olympics," Albiero said. "But the culture of China is something I didn't know a lot about going into it, but I certainly came back much more intrigued. Everything I learned is very different than what we're used to."

Offensive units for both the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky have some catching up to do with their defensive counterparts.

Neither side produced plays worthy of the highlight reels, as both units failed to produce many yards or convert on third downs.  The two teams combined for 415 yards, 210 for UK and 205 for U of L, and were a total of 9-32 on third down conversions.

Like the other makeovers around the University of Louisville, their promotional items have changed too. The Times New Roman font of the former U of L logo is now replaced with Delta Jaeger. Who can blame them for the new logo that was released earlier this year? That thick, sans-serif-like font can catch a student or visitor's eye.

A Sobering Thought

College and alcohol have been synonymous for years. Whether it's a wild party or a simple drink among friends, liquid courage is as much a part of college culture as textbooks and study halls. Still, there are many consequences to be endured when college students go too far and put themselves in danger due to irresponsible drinking. According to the Journal of Studies on Alcohol, one in five college students meets the criteria for alcohol abuse or dependence.
