As a second year law student at the University of Louisville, Andrew Henson devotes much of his time to studying.
On Thursday, however, Henson set aside the books and took to the stage to perform with his band in Lawlapalooza 2008.
"Law school can be pretty damn stressful," said Henson of his motivation to play in the event held at the Phoenix Hill Tavern.

Rudy Spencer decided to take matters into his own hands, quite literally, as votes trickled in during the mock presidential and senate election put on by the Student Government Association this past Friday. The SGA president grabbed a handful of ballots from the registration table and headed to the main cafeteria in the Student Activities Center, trying to find students to participate in the election happening in the building's lower level.

It is Wednesday night in the Interfaith Center and John Brockmeier and Randy Barth ensconce themselves in the Catholic Campus Ministry's monthly "Pizza and Theology" event, downing slices of Dominoes while in the thick of theological discussion.It is Friday night in the Humanities building where Devon Spalding leads a meeting of the newly formed Secular Alliance of Free Thought and Enlightenment, set to address faith matters that he feels plague college students.

If  University of Louisville or Memphis fans were asked what it means to rekindle their highly competitive rivalry, most would undoubtedly remember the many battles that took place on the hardwood.
But for the die-hard fans, some of the greatest match ups went down on the gridiron.
The last time U of L and Memphis played in 2004, the teams scored a combined 105 points and racked up over 1,200 yards in a game the Cards won 56-49.


Gymnastics club flips into new year

With so many Recognized Student Organizations on campus, it can be very difficult for an RSO to gain popularity and separate itself from the fray.
This has been the case for the University of Louisville Gymnastics Club over the past few years. However, they expect things to be different this year.

It's not too often students get to experience an athlete show off their skills in two varsity sports.
University of Louisville freshman Gwen Rucker, however, is a dual-sport athlete as a middle hitter for the volleyball team and  a forward for the women's basketball team.
"I haven't experienced playing both sports [at the collegiate level] yet, since I've only played one (volleyball), but I know it will be hard," Rucker said. "I like it because you get to go from one sport to the other. I get bored really easily, so when I get done with one sport I can transition into the other sport."


Hometown hero, Jimmy Crick, plays for school and city pride

University of Louisville freshman midfielder Jimmy Crick used to cheer the Cardinals men's soccer team on to victory when he was younger.
Now, Crick plays significant minutes on the team he was a fan of as a kid.
"It's a special feeling," Crick said. "When I was younger I would be there to watch. Now I'm looking up in the stands at what I used to be."


Students take leading roles in theater group

There are a lot of University of Louisville students who were active in theater in high school but dropped the interest in college due to lack of opportunity. Most students are aware of the main stage productions but are not theater majors or feel too intimidated to get involved.


U of L men’s tennis gears up for Louisville Invitational

To  University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma, this year's Louisville Invitational is a chance to see his players realize their fullest potential. 
"It will be exciting for the fans to see a guy like Viktor [Maksimcuk] go for his first title," Rex Ecarma, U of L men's tennis head coach, said. "He has the potential to be a nationally ranked singles player. Playing here and being experienced is going to give him an advantage, but we'll have to see if he can stay focused for five straight singles matches."
