Recent crime on campus sparks safety concerns

At the end of the February Faculty Senate meeting,  a question was asked about reducing crime on campus. To which University of Louisville Provost Shirley Willihnganz said we have to take precautions.
On Wed., Feb. 4 the second notification for the spring 2009 semester was issued from U of L Police Department.


Column: Tragedy hits Louisville

By now, you all have heard the story of Max Gilpin, the Pleasure Ridge Park High School football player that died at practice last August. His coach, Jason Stinson, was recently indicted on reckless homicide charges in relation to Gilpin's death.
The story is certainly nothing new. Every year a handful of high school kids die while at football practice. What makes this one different from a national perspective is Stinson could end up spending time in prison because of the incident.

McAlister's Deli opening delayed until March

McAlister's Deli, which was originally supposed to open in January, will be opening in March 2009.
McAlister's will be located in the Miller Information Technology Center in the space which was previously Mitzi's.


Cardinals; men and women battle opponents and cancer

Last week was not a great week in University of Louisville basketball, as both the men and women's teams suffered losses.
On the men's side, the Cards fell short 68-51 to No. 1 University of Connecticut in Freedom Hall. Senior forward Terrence Williams' career-high 26 points wasn't enough to grant U of L a victory. He shot 11-of-19 from the field, while the rest of the team went 11-of-45 from the floor.

 Day 5: Fri., Jan. 16
It's getting harder to sleep.  These vivid dreams seem to start happening more and more frequently.  I'm having to trick myself into falling asleep, then when I do, I get woken up by some crazy subconscious hallucination that surprises me into consciousness.
The daylight hours are full of stomach pain, muscle weakness, and the bland taste of stale water.  I can't really get out of bed for more than a few hours, which means I can still get things done, but I have no free time.


Letter to the Editor: SGA’s support embarassing

"For over a decade, students have registered complaints with SGA about the dining services available at the University of Louisville," SGA stated online about dining services.
The SGA supports a policy that will force students to spend money on services that they've complained about – the mandatory meal plan. They think that increasing the business in the SAC will allow new establishments to boom because the existing businesses will decide to give up on an area where the customers are actually forced to spend money on their products.


Barlow goes from hardwood to softball field

After dominating the hardwood for four years, senior Patrika Barlow is hungry for more. However, when March Madness rolls around, Barlow won't be on the basketball court – she'll be on the softball field.
Barlow was a four-year letter winner and two-year starter for the University of Louisville women's basketball team. She was a major part of Louisville's 2007-2008 season; in which she helped the Cardinals reach their first Sweet 16, dishing out nearly seven assists per game.


Graduation arouses mixed feeling among seniors

A sense of anxiety, coupled with anticipation is slowly creeping into the cold, biting air of the spring semester, as seniors take their first steps in the commencement process. 
With various graduate information e-mails filling the mailboxes of upcoming May graduates, the age old question once again arises; how does it feel?
"I'm definitely ready to graduate," said Lindsay Coblentz, a senior communications major.
