The University of Louisville softball team is coming off their best season in school history and the 2007 Big East coaches' poll suggests the team will repeat as the conference leader. After posting a 45-11 record, winning the Big East regular season championship and receiving its third consecutive at-large bid to the NCAA tournament last season, the Cards were picked in the pre-season polls to win the conference.

The National Association of College Stores reports that an average student will spend more on books in one semester than most third-world families earn in a year: $900. Text books are expensive and they continue to cost more and more each year. According to a new study by the state Public Interest Research Group, college textbook prices "have increased at nearly four times the rate of inflation" for all finished goods since 1994.

A Democratic House of Representatives began its push for higher education last Wednesday when it passed legislation that would cut interest rates on need-based student loans from 6.8 to 3.4 percent over the next five years.
