The University of Louisville baseball team won their season opener 7-2 against Eastern Kentucky University on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Freshman pitcher Nick Burdi made his career debut for Louisville, earning his first U of L victory after throwing four shutout innings against the Colonels. Freshman left-hander Joe Filomeno also made an impact during his first home game with the Cardinals, striking out the side in the first inning. Sophomore outfielder Adam Engel Engel saved a two-run homer in the fifth inning, executing a spectacular grab that makes him a strong contender for the Cardinals’ defensive play of the year.
