University of Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich has called a news conference to address the U of L head football coaching vacancy. It will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

According to The Courier-Journal, Jurich is traveling to Gainesville, Fla. early Wednesday morning to finalize a deal with University of Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, to name him the 21st head football coach at U of L.

Jurich told The Courier that he was optimistic that a deal would be done soon, and if all goes well Strong should accompany him back to Louisville.

If Strong is indeed named head coach, Jurich said he is open to allowing him to coach the Gators in the Sugar Bowl against the University of Cincinnati on Jan. 1, 2010.

Following Wednesday's press conference, there is a football fan event set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Brown and Williamson Club.
