Debate series part of peace week

The University of Louisville hosted its second annual Peace and Justice Week. The festivities, held Oct. 23-27, took off with the Hood Peace Summit public debate series. The series included debates about violence, war and Just Act Day. The events were geared to promote a more peaceful community.

The University of Louisville has long balanced its competitive academic standards with efforts to ensure as many prospective students as possible have the opportunity to sit in its classrooms. This is a great service to our community, and as a native of Louisville, one in which I take great pride.

Americans remain well-off despite growing population

As of last Tuesday, the U.S. population reached 300 million. But, instead of balloons and streamers, the day was largely met with varying degrees of ambivalence. In the days leading up to the event, for instance, television and print commentators were doggedly using the words "worried" and "concerned" to describe how Americans felt about our ever-expanding country.
