A bluegrass duet called Jawbones was playing. A huge map of "Kentucky's Mosaic of Life" covered nearly half of the West Lawn. 30 booths were lined up side by side.
All of these things were dedicated to one thing on October 22, Sustainability Day, at the University of Louisville--making the campus a little more eco-friendly.
"People have a vague idea but don't understand the issues." said professor of psychology Barbara Burns, who helped to organize and lead the event.

Electoral college should be abolished

The necessity of an electoral college has been a much debated issue since the infamous presidential election of 2000.
Many of us remember going to bed with Al Gore as president, only to wake up to George W. Bush. Gore had won the popular vote, but Bush had succeeded in capturing the majority of electoral votes.

U of L students psyched for upcoming election

For Wes Allen, the upcoming November 4 election is more than just the average voting go-round. It is a chance for students to fulfill their civic duty.
"I think we will see a vast increase in voting by young adults unlike any other election before," said Allen, a senior justice administration and sociology major. "High fuel prices, high tuition rates, the condition of the economy, tax breaks for those who need them and many other concerns are at stake."

Obama, a Democratic senator from Illinois, is currently leading his republican opponent John McCain in the polls for this race.

McCain has echoed the Obama campaign in this race by also presenting himself as a candidate that will bring reform and change to this country.

Former  five-term representative, Republican Ann Northup, has returned from a failed bid for governor in an attempt to reclaim a seat in the House.

McConnell led the republican minority during his fourth term as state senator.

This is Lunsford's first campaign for a senatorial position. Lunsford has held several positions with the Democratic party over the years, and boasts a career as a successful businessman, having invested in horse racing, theme parks and the film industry.

Everyone can vote this election, not everyone should

Of all the foolish axioms of American political discourse, perhaps the most foolish is "if you don't vote, you can't complain." The ignorance of this statement is painful on several levels.
Legally, it is clear in the constitution that one's first amendment rights of free speech, petition and assembly are not dependent on one's voting habits.
Practically, a prohibition on speaking out based on negligence in suffrage excludes important voices.

New technology in classroom replays lectures on demand

Imagine sitting in a lecture hall, vigorously copying down the notes on the projector screen and listening to the words of the professor, while attempting to actually comprehend the topic of discussion.
You stop for thirty seconds, just to send a text on your phone or listen to a side conversation, and miss a step in the calculus equation that is being explained. After that, every step makes no sense and none of your neighbors remember what to do. Raising your hand to ask about it is out of the question. You're lost in the material and aren't sure how to get back on track before the homework is due.

It’s up to you.
