But for some students at the University of Louisville with that tradition comes another. Monday, Nov. 24 marks the 55th consecutive running of the annual Turkey Trot. This intramural race is the oldest consecutively run road race in the state of Kentucky.

Sniffling. Sneezing. Coughing. This may sound like your typical medicinal advertisement, but these symptoms become reality for college-aged students during this time of year.
"Being sick this time of the year is very common because we are indoors more," Director of Campus Health Services Karen Newton said. "After circulating around the planet, the flu virus hits this area of the globe. People actually refer to this as the cold and flu season, it lasts from about November to early March."

The French have a popular saying that translates into the English language as: "The more things change, the more they stay the same."
University of Louisville archivist Tom Owen would very likely agree with the sentiment.
Louisville prides itself on being a diverse city, and the historian strives to keep that tradition alive. Owen has created several documentaries for the public, with each chronicling an era of the city's celebrated history.

Column: Packed stands will lift spirits

Student spirit has been an issue at the University of Louisville for as long as I can remember.
For whatever reason, students here don't seem to be as passionate as they could be about their teams. People in the stands seem less interested in the game and more interested in things that have nothing to do with the game.

Tension in the room?

As Barack Obama took the stage in Chicago's Grant Park on Tuesday, Nov. 4, having just secured enough votes to be declared president, many citizens, both white and black, took to rejoicing in the streets or sat with their eyes glued to the television, anticipating Obama's first address in his new position of leadership. For many, it was a time to rejoice. For others, it was a moment to reflect on just how much America had changed.
Many in the University of Louisville community were no exception.
"I am inspired by [Obama's] great example," sophomore communication major Jaison Gardner said. "The tide is shifting in the right direction. He is definitely a black person to look up to."

It's quite amazing how colleges will nickel and dime students for everything.
But here's something even more astonishing:  out-of-state students who are admitted to University of Louisville's School of Dentistry program are required to sign on as out-of-state students for the full four years. Even if they uproot their family or only themselves from say New Mexico, and live in Louisville the full four years, they are required to remain classified as out-of-state students for their whole stay.
