It’s been about a week since a pipe burst in the School of Music, flooding the third floor of the Comstock Concert Hall on the Belknap Campus.
Colt Howell, a senior who works at the front desk of the School of Music, was training a new employee on the night of the incident. It was actually the new hire who first heard the sound of flowing water at around 8:30 PM.
Within seconds, the two of them saw water pouring into the back of the concert hall as sirens blared overhead. After securing the building and helping evacuate those left, first responders came to move others to an adjacent building and make sure no one else was affected by the damage.
“Every person involved played an important role, and I am thankful to be employed and surrounded by such incredible leaders and workers,” Howell stated.
Student-workers made swift work of moving and covering any instruments on the stage or in the building that could have been affected by the flooding.
Below are photos of the damage and residual drainage taken by The Louisville Cardinal on Jan. 19th. As of Jan. 25th, restoration work is “going well” with events expected to return to Comstock in about three weeks, according to Executive Director of Communications John Karman. The total amount of damage is unknown.
