Governor Steve Beshear has appointed former Deputy Mayor of Louisville, William E. Summers IV, to the University of Louisville Board of Trustees.

Summers takes the spot of Louisville businessman Steve Wilson, who resigned from the Board of Trustees in late September.

In order to be in compliance with a Kentucky state law that requires racial balance on the board, Beshear vowed to appoint an African American to replace Wilson.

“For over 40 years I have devoted my life to serving my hometown of Louisville, and I appreciate this opportunity by Governor Beshear to serve on U of L’s board,” Summers said.

The Board of Trustees now holds two minority representatives, which is required by Kentucky Law.
