Many University of Louisville students have experienced problems with their Cardmail account this week due to an issue with Microsoft’s software licensing for students.

New U of L students and some returning students were not able to download the free Microsoft Office software, which includes their Cardmail accounts, SharePoint, Skype or access to One-Drive.

“It was pretty frustrating not being able to open my Cardmail account for the first week of classes,” said freshman Hayley Scott. “I was not able to see some of my professor’s emails due to this issue.”

IT filed a Priority A, or highest priority, ticket for Microsoft’s assistance and tried to assign students new licenses, but was unable to do so due to changes with Microsoft licenses.

“Even as a returning student I had trouble with my account,” says senior student, Sydney Wininger. “Hopefully IT will have the problem fixed soon. I do not want to miss something from a class because I was not able to see an email.”

In an email sent out to the University of Louisville faculty and staff, IT stated that they are testing a new solution to fix everything within 12 hours.

IT has since commented that all students should have full access to the Microsoft software.

Students still having issues should contact the IT HelpDesk at (502)852-7997 or Louisville.edu/it/helpdesk.
