The University of Louisville’s English department is riddled with creative talent. So much so that two of  faculty members, Kiki Petrosino and Jefferey Skinner, have just had collections of poetry published. These two professors’ impeccable writing skills were showcased at their poetry reading on November 7th in the Chao auditorium on campus.

Students, general public, and fellow faculty members congregated to engage in the graceful words of Petrosino and Skinner. Petrosino set off the evening with readings from her new book, Hymn for the Black Terrific. Alluring listeners with samples from each category of her book, she read of topics including: ancestry, race, and accounts of a recent trip to China. Skinner then took the stage and shared powerful excerpts from his collection of poems titled Glaciology. His poetry held an array of subject matter, some depicting family journeys. Skinner shared unique portrayals about the gain and loss of loved ones, which captivated the audience.

The passion these two professors have for their art was felt through their rich words. Professor Petrosino, when asked what she enjoyed most while constructing her second published collection, simply attested that “Every poet loves to write.” These writers’ mere love for their trade has blessed many readers with great art in the form of poetry. So take pride Cards; there’s talent all around you here at U of L, in more places than you know.
