With continuous construction on the ever-expanding Belknap Campus, it should be no secret that many changes are underway for U of L. For the Elevate campaign, the goal is a fully-developed campus.

Some of the slate’s key goals include adding another recreation center and a 24-hour dining area on campus. Additionally, they have addressed the idea of repurposing the space currently occupied by the Class Act Federal Credit Union in the lower level of the Student Activities Center. They would like to transform this space into a grocery or dining space.

“Right now, if you want to eat after 9 p.m., your options are limited,” said John Weber, a junior political science major. “If you can’t use your meal plan dollar like you want to use it, then that’s not the most effective way to have it.”

Although the meal plan is contractual and can’t be completely dissolved, Weber and the Elevate candidates hope to make it work better for students.

As the current SGA services vice president, Weber said the meal plan and dining services issue has been the biggest thing he’s faced this year. However, Weber added that the current administration has done a lot to help make it more favorable for students.

“Going forward, we’re going to have a block plan where students will be able to use their meal swipes throughout the semester instead of every week,” said Weber. “If you’re sick, you won’t lose meals. If you’re going out of town, you won’t lose meals. It’s one thing we’ve worked hard to bring and will continue to improve next year.”
