University of Louisville officials gathered to break ground on the SAC renovation last week. The renovation, announced last October, is projected to be complete in fall 2018.

Among those in attendance was acting President Neville Pinto and CFO Harlan Sands. Sands gave a few ideas of what students can expect from the new SAC.

“There’s going to be an Amazon store,” said Sands. “We’ll be one of the first universities in the country to have an Amazon pick-up location.” Because of the Amazon distribution center in Louisville, students would be able to order from Amazon and pick up on the same day.

“Six new dining locations, 16 new meeting rooms, more flexible and dedicated large function space,” said Sands. An expanded Starbucks, an expanded student activities office, a new south edition and more retail locations were also said to be added.

Sands said they would try to complete different projects in phases. Nearly 90 percent of the SAC is going to be renovated. The 112,000 square foot building is projected to receive an additional 32,000 square feet after the renovation.

“It is with great honor that I get to represent a student body today for the groundbreaking of the new Student Activities Center,” SGA President Aaron Vance said.
