The Arts & Sciences Council at U of L has made attempts to increase students’ tuition with a new $6 technology fee. The fee will allow for departments to update old projectors with high-tech smart boards. U of L now requires proof of student support before any legislation can pass, so SGA is in the process of drafting a resolution about what students think about the fee.

“The E-Board made up of every college president will draft a resolution and the Senate will discuss it and vote. The Senate is currently waiting on more information from the tuition and fee committee before voting,” said SGA Director of Communications Jacob Abrahamson.

This fee would only benefit Arts & Sciences classrooms, including those in Davidson and Strickler. Abrahamson said the fee would be spent by the college evenly by departments that need it the most.

“The college already pays $75,000 a year on technology, most of which is spent on light bulbs for projectors,” said Abrahamson.

Abrahamson said other colleges within U of L already have similar fees for technology.

The status of this proposal is up in the air until SGA decides on whether or not they are in favor of the fee.
