Former ticket manager admits to stealing more than $100,000
Kerry Johnson, former University of Louisville athletic ticket office manager pleaded guilty on Nov. 2 to charges of her stealing money from the university. Johnson admitted the amount was upward of $100,000. Prosecutors are recommending Johnson be sentenced to five years’ probation, drug addiction treatment, 100 hours of community service and that she pay just north of $100,400 in restitution to the university. Johnson was fired as business manager of the ticket office on Oct. 6.
Winter and holiday drive
U of L’s department of Latin and Latino Studies is partnering with Book-in-Common and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana in a Winter and Holiday Assistance Drive to benefit underprivileged Louisville-area residents. Participants are asked to donate unwrapped hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and toys for children aged 7 to 18 years, according to BBBS of Kentuckiana Chief Program Officer Stacey Hamilton-Nance.
“Anything to keep these kids warm or to make their holidays a little better would be a great help,” said Hamilton-Nance.
Items can be donated in Stevenson Hall in room 305 through Dec. 12.
School of nursing reaccredited for the next 10 years
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education has reaccredited the University of Louisville School of Nursing’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
The extension is good for the next 10 years, the maximum extension given by the commission, according to a university release. The school’s accreditation now expires on Dec. 31, 2021.
“Our students are proud to be a part of a CCNE accredited school, which leverages our baccalaureate graduates for advancing on to earn their graduate degrees,” said School of Nursing dean Marcia Hern in the release.
The School of Nursing plans to add an acute care nurse practitioner program to its list of master’s level programs in fall of 2012, for a total of six programs.
