University of Louisville head men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino said today he plans to retire after his current contract ends following the 2016-2017 season, reports ESPN on their website.

“When you’re 59, you’re realistic that you don’t have a whole lot of years left,” Pitino said in a press conference about No. 4 Louisville’s Wednesday game against No. 12 Georgetown.

Pitino’s contract was extended four years in August to the 2016-2017 season, which would be his sixteenth at U of L.

Pitino has led the Cards to a 12-0 record so far this season. Last year, U of L basketball had the highest total revenue in the nation.

There is no word yet as to Pitino’s replacement in 2017.
