For me, photography was the springboard that led to my love for and commitment to journalism. In my artistic and journalistic endeavors, I attempt to photograph events, places and things that transport the viewer to a place they have never been.

I am currently a sophomore health and human performance major and honors scholar from the Kentucky Lakes area. I've only been with The Louisville Cardinal since this past fall, but I can't remember a time when a camera wasn't accessible or there wasn't a fully stocked scrapbook on my shelf. Photography has always been an integral part of my life and I can only hope to enhance my knowledge as I grow older, even if it only remains a hobby. My two favorite things to shoot are nature and action. First and foremost, I will always love nature and the sheer beauty it has to offer. In addition, I enjoy the challenge of capturing a person in action. No poses, no studio—just one being in his or her own element (especially if that person is a Cardinal). In addition to the paper, I am also a member of the University of Louisville's marching and pep bands, Alpha Phi Omega and Honors Student Council.

When I took my first photography class during my senior year of high school, I had no idea of the great impact it would have on my life. When I started photography, it was simply for leisure. And while I still enjoy doing it for this purpose, I also have hopes of owning my own business one day. I currently do freelance photography, mostly doing portraits and weddings. I have always loved art and creating my own art. I enjoy helping people see the art in anything and everything—the way I do.

Photography was an accidental passion for me. I have always had an interest in visual arts, but had a hard time finding my love for only one media. I began working in film and historic photographic processes before finding my true love in photojournalism. My love in photojournalism stems from an interest in bringing events, people and images to those who were not able to see or experience them in person. By spreading news through images and words to a larger population than those who had the ability to witness it, it can disseminate into the collective conscious. Through media, photos can not only be beautiful, but also thought provoking.
