Students say smoking ban a positive thing

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg pledged to give $125 million of his own money to advance smoke-free causes in America earlier this month. This unprecedented act will make an extraordinary difference in waning tobacco use across the country. Last year, to improve air quality in Jefferson County, the city of Louisville banned smoking in nearly all public facilities, including the University of Louisville.

For some strange reason I was unable to come up with anything truly relevant to write about this week (unless you want to read me rant about T.O.). So I thought I would play a little game ESPN likes to play called "Fact or Fiction." I threw in a few things pertaining to U of L and the sports world in general.

Women’s Soccer gets off to hot start

The Cards took care of the Ohio University last Friday night at home with a 2-1 overtime win. Both teams entered the second half knotted at one after trading goals in the first 30 minutes of play. Louisville freshman forward Lindsay Boling broke the tie in the first minute of overtime for her first collegiate goal, propelling the Cards to a dramatic win to start the regular season.

"An Inconvenient Truth" educates its audience about the crisis of global warming and how humans can help to solve the problem before it is too late. The 95-minute documentary features former United States Vice President Al Gore as its central figure, and centers primarily around a slide show and lecture which Gore gives about the debilitating effect that global warming is having on the environment.

In 2005 alone, People Magazine, according to the Advertising Age FactPack, had a gross revenue of $1,271,005, making it the top seller. From that estimate, approximately 3,652,022 were paid subscribers to the magazine.
