U of L land leased to Project Women for facilities

At the University of Louisville's Board of Trustees meeting in July, an attempt was made to pacify the needs of poverty-stricken women in Louisville. Project Women, an organization driven to disseminate hope amongst single mothers, has collaborated with U of L to provide single mothers with housing, and support them on their road to obtaining a baccalaureate degree.

This is definitely not the Underoath who released "They're Only Chasing Safety" in 2004. Gone are the melodic guitar riffs and catchy choruses. In their place are tight, technical guitar licks and angst-ridden, guttural screams. While it certainly will be classified as hardcore, the album seems to come off as the pretentious product of an emo band trying to gain credibility, especially when placed side by side with other, more established bands of the genre.

Washing fruit

In order to prevent food-borne illness, the FDA, Food and Drug Administration, encourages students and faculty to wash fruits and veggies with clean water. The washing is done in an effort to remove toxic pesticides or other bacteria. Not taking these steps can lead to harmful and possibly fatal consequences.

Student political groups educate for upcoming elections

In lieu of the upcoming midterm elections on Tues., Nov. 7, the College Democrats and College Republicans at the University of Louisville have been working around the calendar to encourage student participation in pre-election activities. Although they have opposing views with one another, they share the same goal of achieving student membership and helping out with the local campaigns of their parties.

Saving money important for students

Saving money from each paycheck or allowance will provide students the means to secure funds for necessary expenditures like car repairs, tuition and books, clothing and rent. The ability to save and accumulate financial resources will offset the need to indulge in unnecessary credit, including school loans with high percentage rates.

Identity theft can affect students too

Identity theft is and remains a serious problem. College students, who pay their mounting bills through means of credit cards and other impersonal ways of money transfer, must be careful due to the risk of having their identity stolen. To prevent this from happening, both the Student Credit Union and the Department of Public Safety urge students at the University of Louisville to be cautious and educated.

Campus safety questioned after shooting

Just two days after the University of Louisville commemorated 9/11, another occurrence resembling an act of terrorism affected students. On Sept. 13, at Dawson College in Montreal, Canada, a lone gunman opened fire on unsuspecting students, killing one and wounding 19 others.
