Student football managers make game day possible for U of L

Lesson number one for a football manager is silence is synonymous with success. The less that they hear from the coaches, the better they are doing their job. "The silence is our praise," said sophomore manager Patrick Beiting. There are 11 managers aiding the University of Louisville football squad, nine of which are on scholarships.

While the NCAA does not allow the payment of players, the amount of money up for grabs has promoted unethical behavior among a majority of college athletic programs. Corruption is now an every day affair. Every good season that results in a bowl bid or tournament appearance equals more money for schools.

Take Back the Night, The White Ribbon Campaign and The Pinwheel Project, events held this past week at the University of Louisville to promote the awareness and empowerment to individuals to inspire action and to end violence. Take Back the Night was the highlight event put on to bring organizations, civic leaders from the Jefferson County area and other individuals to protest violence against women.

On-campus child care services in development

After years of discussion and debate, the University of Louisville could begin offering child care services as early as 2008, Provost Shirley Willihnganz said. "We've made the decision to begin a child development program which will enroll children from ages infant to school-age, and then provide after-school and school-break care for school-age children," Willihnganz said.

Cross country has strong weekend Both the men and women's cross country teams had strong showings Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic. University of Louisville freshman, Tarah McKay, finished first overall among a field of 273 racers. "I'm really happy with how I ran today and it's a great feeling to get a win in my first big collegiate race," said McKay.
