Statewide project benefits U of L students, area high-school kids

Caitlin Swain-McSurely said she grew up with social justice in her blood. That may be an understatement for the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights representative, whose father was on trial for sedition while she was born. Swain-McSurely, along with undergraduate interns from the University of Louisville, staff from the Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research and other statewide organizations, developed the Kentucky Remembers! project, a summer camp aimed at educating high school students about historical struggles for human rights.

U of L sues Duke for breach of contract

The University of Louisville has sued Duke University stemming from a breach of contract. The suit was filed in Franklin circuit court in early November and calls for $450,000 in damages or whatever the court deems necessary. The money adds up to the equivalent of $150,000 for the three dropped football games, the amount specified in the buy-out clause in the contract.

The University of Louisville volleyball team's perfect conference record was demolished Sunday, as the Cards fell to the University of Notre Dame on national television in South Bend, Ind. Junior Jana Matisovska's 16 kills, two aces and three blocks were not enough as the Cardinals lost 30-28, 30-16, 25-30, 30-28.

We all know the feeling. You just ran into Wal-Mart for one thing, but all of the checkout lanes are full. Logically, you move to the express lane, where there is a 10 item limit, but the person in front of you has no less than 30 items in his cart. It's a sad reflection of society.

‘Angels’ at the Playhouse

"Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches" lands at the University of Louisville's Playhouse on Nov. 14. Set in the mid-1980s in New York City, the play will introduce a Jewish gay man Louis Ironson, his AIDS inflicted partner Prior Walter, Republican Mormon Joe Pitt, his mentor Roy Cohn and his "pill-popping" wife Harper.
