Multiple facilities make staying active on campus easy

For many students, being able to stay active while on campus is a major concern. The walk across campus is enough for some but many students look for intense exercise in a fitness center or a social exercise environment. The University of Louisville offers several facilities on and around campus to accommodate these student's needs.

Housing complex for single parents opening at U of L

Despite 96 degree heat on Saturday, dozens of volunteers from the University of Louisville were landscaping and helping students move in to their new homes at the Louisville Scholarship House. This new facility, built at the intersection of Fifth and Bloom Streets will house 54 single mothers, two single fathers and 98 children, when completed in September.

Construction on university’s Oval Commons Project ends

The Thinker statue in front of Grawemeyer Hall had a change of scenery this month while overlooking neon orange traffic cones, clouds of white dust circling in the air and construction workers drilling and sanding. Completed this past Sunday, the Oval Commons Project was meant to change the front circle into an oval and replace the asphalt with brick and stone.

The class of 2012 has an ACT average of 24.4 and 62 percent are residing in university housing. They are also the largest freshmen class for the University of Louisville. As U of L welcomed them to their new home this weekend, their predecessors have a new campus this fall.

The No. 13 ranked University of Louisville field hockey team will open its season Saturday with a rematch from last year with No. 12 Duke University at Trager Stadium. Duke prevailed last year 2-0 on a neutral field, but another year of experience for the young Cards and home field advantage has the team optimistic.

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz has grown accustomed to dunking, but just not in the water.? Incoming freshman Sean Lydon introduced Walz to the water as he connected with the dunk tank and sent the coach into a tub of water at this year's CARDnival, an event held at Trager Field as part of the 2008 Welcome Weekend.
