Cyber-sexuality on Facebook is not a joking matter

As students' participation in Facebook grows, so does my curiosity as to why many of my straight classmates find entertainment in listing their relationship status as "In a Relationship with..." or "Married to..." another straight person of the same sex.
For those unfamiliar, Facebook is a free social networking Web site -- a sort of ‘Myspace.com' for the college crowd – where users can interact with other people in a particular city or school. Each user can edit a personal profile with as much about themselves as they wish, including relationship status and a link to the profile of a spouse or lover.

As you have likely heard this year's freshmen class is larger, smarter and sexier than you. They bring ACT scores that trump the national and state average and 50 more members than last year's class. The University of Louisville has approximately 2600 freshmen this year, 62 percent of whom live in campus residence halls which hold 3300 students.
After repeated years of incoming freshman class growth, it's easy to see why The Louisville Cardinal reported students living in study lounges.

Tomorrow night at 8 p.m., the University of Louisville football team will attempt to keep the ball moving as they look for their second win in a row. The Cardinals (1-1) will take on the Wildcats of Kansas State University (2-0) for only the second time in history.
In their first road game of the season, the Wildcats will attempt to keep their undefeated record by leading with a strong offense.  In wins over Montana State University and the University of North Texas, Kansas State has scored a combined 115 points.

Free hugs spread love, cheer around campus

Jason Godfrey doesn't consider himself to be a "touchy-feely" kind of guy.
But even Godfrey, a sophomore psychology major, went against his instinct last week when he saw a student outside of the Student Activities Center waving a sign that read simply, "Free Hugs."

Sophomore defender Meredith Tolley didn't know much about the rivalry between the University of Louisville and the University of Cincinnati when she came to U of L last year.
After her experiences from last year, she understands the importance of the game.
"Last year since I was new I didn't really know about it," Tolley said. "There was a video made about the rivalry with UC and it got me excited, but nothing was more exciting than the game last year. We just feed off everyone's energy."

Homophobia: Growing problems or healing wounds?

Sexual orientation is a growing issue throughout the United States, and college campuses are no exception. Most students, regardless of their own sexuality, know a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. The LGBT community has founded several Resident Student Organization's, and they also run many high profile campus-wide events. However, has such an active LGBT community had any impact on the attitudes of others on campus?

Students, players help at Ryder Cup

For University of Louisville students who aren't familiar with the Ryder Cup, Seth Ganshirt, junior psychology student, described it as the "Olympics of golf."
"I think the Ryder Cup is a great event for golf," Ganshirt said. "The intensity just goes up to another level, because golf is an individual sport, but in this event it becomes a team concept in playing for your country."

On June 20, 2008, federal investigators marched into the College of Education and Human Development, emerging hours later with boxes of information pertaining to the activities of former CEHD Dean Robert Felner. Felner is now under federal investigation for allegedly misappropriating approximately $694,000 of the college's federal grant money.
