U of L’s Ballroom Dance Club has been seeing strong showings at their recent events.

President Lily Hagen describes the Ballroom Dance club as a “no experience necessary” creative dance club to help student have fun. Hagen and Social Media Coordinator Raine Blanchet expressed some positive outlooks in an interview about this semester’s events

The first event that was hosted by the Ballroom Dance Club was an official class produced by Bourbon Tango, a local dance club from the Louisville area that teaches Argentine Tango.

Blanchet said the club had around 60 people show up to their event, which Hagen added was almost double the amount of people who previously attended meetings. They both said they are very excited to continue to teach and dance alongside other students.

Furthermore, they both discussed how they attempt to create a welcoming environment for all students to join at any point during the year. They utilize their executive board to help new students feel welcomed in the club and help them learn if they join halfway through a dance lesson during the month.

Blanchet started attending the student-led Thursday events which made her feel more welcomed into the group. She describes the student-led experience as “a lot less intimidating” compared to the Bourbon Tango events which can sometimes feel like professional dancing with professional instructors. Students enjoy both nights hosted by the Ballroom Dance Club and love the creative environment they foster.

The Ballroom Dance Club has many events coming up soon throughout the entire semester. Some are dancing events, others are fun parties students across campus can attend. Below are the events currently planned throughout the semester!

Mondays (Weekly) – Bourbon Tango Class @ SRC Rm 200
Thursdays (Weekly) – Student-Led Class @ SRC Rm 200
