For Louisville students, attending sporting events is an important part of the college experience. The Ville’ns ticketing program offers students access to such events throughout the year, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and baseball.
For ticketing Louisville football and men’s basketball use a lottery system through Ticketmaster. Women’s basketball, volleyball and baseball operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are able to request tickets through the Louisville Athletics ticketing system, with the process corresponding to the chosen sport.
Change of plans
According to Ville’ns president Sam Travelstead, the ticketing system for the 2026-27 school year will only see one major change. “The ticketing program this year is the exact same as last year,” Travelstead said. “The only change is that Ville’ns+ no longer exists.”
The biggest difference here is that there are no more guaranteed tickets through a “Ville’ns+” membership. Instead, the lottery for football and men’s basketball is weighted based on student attendance at other events.
Students who attend more games overall have a better chance of receiving tickets to sports with lotteries such as football. Travelstead said the decision to discontinue Ville’ns+ was meant to “enhance the overall game day experience and incentivize early attendance.”
The attendance-based system is also intended to reward students who consistently support Louisville Athletics.
If the number of student ticket requests is greater than the available number of student tickets for a game, the weighted lottery system determines which individuals receive tickets. If requests do not exceed the available inventory, every student who requested a ticket will receive one.
Students react
The change received a mixed but generally open-minded response from students. Some were initially concerned about the removal of Ville’ns+, but Travelstead said many became comfortable with the system after understanding how it works.
“The response from students has been open-minded and agreeable,” Travelstead said. “There obviously were students who were worried about the change and skeptical.”
Travelstead added that the Ville’ns executive board has spoken with students who say the current process is easier to understand and more accessible after hearing the details.
Moving forward, communication will be an important part of the program. Travelstead discussed how Ville’ns is focused on making sure students understand how to request tickets and how attendance can affect their chances in future lotteries. “I believe the ticketing system is much more streamlined now than ever,” Travelstead said. “I believe the communication piece is vital.”
For the U of L community, the evolved Ville’ns program provides an opportunity to attend Louisville sporting events and support the university’s numerous athletic programs.
Understanding the different ticketing processes and requesting tickets on time and early in the season will be key for students to get in the stands this season.
