The Louisville men’s basketball roster saw two notable shake-ups early Friday morning.

First, UNC guard Seth Trimble’s transfer to the Cards became official, with Pat Kelsey announcing the signing. “There’s no question that he will have an immediate impact on what we have been building this offseason,” he said.

However, complications arose almost as soon as the transfer became official. An appeal from the NCAA was granted by the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. This appeal temporarily revokes eligibility granted by an earlier injuction for the 2022 high school graduating class.

Trimble’s addition to the Cardinals roster seemed like the final cherry on top of a successful offseason, but now it is unsure if he will suit up for the team.

Additionally, former NBA G-League guard London Johnson has been dismissed from the team after a questionable nine months with the Cardinals.

Johnson joined the Cards last season with the intent to redshirt. However, after it was announced Mikel Brown Jr. would miss time due to injury, Johnson was activated.

Despite this, Johnson did not appear in any games, redshirting and reserving his year of eligibility for the 26-27 season. It now appears he will never step on the court for the Cardinals.

U of L released a statment Friday afternoon, reading, “London Johnson has been dismissed from the University of Louisville men’s basketball team due to a violation of team rules and University policy. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The two losses come as a significant blow to Louisville’s backcourt, but all the Cards can do now is prepare for the season ahead of them.
