Red-shirt junior quarterback Will Gardner has been granted a release by the University of Louisville and will transfer to a new school.

Gardner started seven games last season and completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 1669 yards and 12 touchdowns before tearing his ACL for a third time in his career that sidelined him for the rest of the 2014 season.

Gardner will graduate from the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in sports administration this December. He will have one year of eligibility left and he will be able to transfer to a new school and will not have to sit out for a year.

Gardner was a part of the four-man quarterback competition this fall with Reggie Bonnafon, Kyle Bolin and Lamar Jackson, but coach Bobby Petrino sided with the other three quarterbacks. Gardner has not appeared in a game this season.
