Final- Cal defeats Louisville 75-71. Mariya Moore finishes with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Briahanna Jackson scores 21 points and adds six steals.

21.9 fourth quarter- Walz takes a timeout. Cal leads 70-66. No remaining timeouts for Louisville. 16,524 announced attendance.

37.4 fourth quarter- Cal takes a timeout after Louisville steals the ball and Jackson scores to cut the lead to 67-66.

2:09 fourth quarter- Walz calls another timeout. Cal leads 65-59. Cardinals don’t have an answer for Cal’s post play. Louisville needs to string together stops and scores to stay alive.

4:31 fourth quarter- Cal leads Louisville 61-56, Walton picks up her fourth personal foul and leaves the game. Erin DeGrate makes her first appearance.

6:55 fourth quarter-Walz calls a timeout. Cal leads 56-53. Cal doing a nice job finding low post players near the low block as Louisville tries to front the post. Kristine Anigwe has 17 points and eight rebounds for Cal.

End of the third quarter-Louisville and Cal tied 46-46. Mariya Moore and Briahanna Jackson leading the way for the Cardinals. Moore has 17 points and has knocked down five 3-pointers. Jackson has been all over the floor defensively. The energy is really picking up in the arena, it will be a loud fourth quarter.

2:48 third quarter- Game tied 41-41 after Jackson’s layup. She has 10 points and six steals.

4:46 third quarter- Pace of play has picked up, Hines-Allen had a nice steal and took the ball the length of the floor, but made a bad pass that went out of bounds. Cal outrebounding Louisville 30 to 17 and the Cardinals are 16 of 46 from the field, but remain just a possession away from the lead. Taja Cole came off the bench and provided a nice spark off the bench, scored on a nice drive to the basket.

6:39 third quarter- Mariya Moore knocks down another 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 41-37. Cal had led 41-32 earlier in the third quarter. Moore now has 14 points.

Halftime- Cal leads Louisville 35-27. Durr has seven points, Moore has six points and five rebounds. Jackson has six points. Durr, Moore and Jackson each have eight shots from the field. Cardinals shooting 12 of 38 from the field, still struggling to get cohesive half-court offense together, Cal’s length has bothered Louisville’s low post players. Cal is outrebounding Louisville 26 to 14.

2:08 second quarter- Cal leads 29-23. 17 turnovers already for Cal, Louisville has 12 points off of those turnovers. Playing with two fouls, Jackson has played well defensively, really seems to be all over the floor.

4:08 second quarter- Louisville gets back to back steals and scores, cutting the Cal lead to 27-20. Jackson had a nice steal in the backcourt for the first layup, Walton picked off a pass and sent the ball ahead to Durr for the second basket.

6:00 second quarter- Cal leads 24-16. Cardinals getting good looks at the basket, Jackson has had a few nice drives, but couldn’t finish any of the layups. Louisville is 7 of 28 from the field.

End of the first quarter- Tied 14-14. Cardinals 6 of 19 from the field (32%). Assisted on five of the six made shots. Mariya Moore had a nice pass to Arica Carter on a fast break for a layup.

2:55 first quarter- With the NCAA rule changes, Louisville was charged with its fifth team foul which sent Cal to the free throw line for the one and one. Another point of emphasis, three second violations for post players camping out in the paint, it has already been called twice. Taja Cole checks in for the first time.

4:24 first quarter– Cortnee Walton hits a midrange jumper, Cal’s head coach Lindsay Gottlieb calls a timeout. Louisville leads 10-9. Sloppy sequence of play the past few possessions for both teams.

7:13 first quarter– Jeff Walz calls a timeout after a few defenses lapses, Cal leads Louisville 9-6.

Sixth man– Sam Fuehring was the first Cardinal off the bench two minutes into the first quarter.

Starting Five and opening– Briahanna Jackson, Asia Durr, Mariya Moore, Myisha Hines-Allen and Cortnee Walton. U of L opened up with a nice set play for Moore, who hit a corner three, on the next possession, Moore knocked down another three-pointer from nearly the same spot.

Louisville opens the season against Cal today at the KFC YUM! Center.
