Coming off a bye week and two consecutive wins, Louisville fell to eleventh-ranked Florida State 41-21. The Cardinals led 7-6 at halftime and took a 14-13 lead early in the third quarter, but were dominated throughout the second half by the undefeated Seminoles.

Dalvin Cook: The Cardinal defense faced one of the best running backs in the country, Dalvin Cook, who was averaging over 150 yards per game.  The sophomore was held to nine yards in the first half, but erupted in the second half.  On Florida State’s opening drive in the second half, Cook scored from 54 yards to give the Seminoles a 14-13 lead.  Cook had 22 carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Gashed: After giving up two field goals in the first half, Cook and quarterback Everett Golson lit up the Cardinal defense in the second half.  Florida State’s offense finished with over 500 yards of total offense.

Second sighting: Louisville faced Golson eleven months ago when he started for Notre Dame.  This time around, he continued his turnover-less 2015 season.  Golson completed 26 of 38 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns.

QB 1: Lamar Jackson completed 19 of 34 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns.  The Seminoles were able to contain the freshman’s running game, Jackson ran for 32 yards on 19 carries.  He had two turnovers, the first a fumble that led to Florid State taking a 27-14 lead.  Jackson threw an interception when receiver James Quick tripped on a deep pass down field.

17: James Quick had five receptions for 130 yards and three touchdowns.  The junior receiver had touchdown receptions from 18, 19 and 39 yards.

Targeting: Late in the third quarter, linebacker Keith Brown was flagged for targeting when he made helmet-to-helmet contact on a Florida State ball carrier.  After the 15 yard penalty, Cook scored on the next play, giving Florida State a 27-14 lead.  Brown’s hit was reviewed and he was ejected for the remainder of the game.  He will miss the first half of the Boston College game as well.

Streak Ends: The Louisville defense had played 21 consecutive games where they forced a turnover, tied for the longest streak in the college football.  But, the streak ended on Saturday.

What’s Next: Louisville plays Boston College on Saturday at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.  The game will kickoff at 12:30 p.m.
