This week–Valentine’s Day BOGO at Qdoba, Brazilian Carnival, International Film Series, PINK Auditions, Voices from the Peace Corps, Art Show in the SAC

1. Valentine’s Day BOGO for a Kiss at Qdoba!
Share the love this Valentine’s Day at Qdoba! Qdoba guests who purchase one entrée on Valentine’s Day and then share a kiss with a significant other, friend, family member or an understanding stranger at the cash register will receive a second entrée of equal of lesser value for free! No coupon is required. All guests need is a pair of lips and a willing smooching partner!

2. Brazilian Carnival

The Anthropology Student Association will be celebrating the beginning of Carnaval, a celebration of food, color, costumes, music and dancing. The event will feature authentic Brazilian cuisine from local restaurants, Brazilian music, mask-making, a photo booth, pub quiz, and a presentation from the Director of the Brazilian Studies program,
professor Medina.

3.International Film Series: Three Movies, Three Continents, Three Days
Three haunting masterpieces from Germany, Japan and Argentina will be shown as part of the international movie festival. All movies are free and refreshments will be served. The first movie, “M” tells the story of when a police force in a German city is unable to catch a child-murderer, other criminals join the hunt. “M” will be playing Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.. “Seven Samurai,” a movie about a poor village under attack by bandits, and the seven samurai that help defend the village, will be playing on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. The last movie of this event is “The Official Story.” At the end of the Dirty War, a high school teacher sets out to find who the mother of her adopted daughter is. This movie will play Feb. 17 at 3 p.m.. The international film series is co-hosted by the Center for International Communication and the Department of Communication and each film is followed by the discussion led by scholars knowledgeable about the culture or history represented in the film.

4. PINK Auditions

5. Voices from the Peace Corps
Are you interested in the Peace Corps? Would you like to learn more about promoting social justice? Commemorate World Social Justice Day and hear Angene and Jack Wilson talk about their book, “Voices from the Peace Corps: Fifty Years of Kentucky Volunteers,” which shares experiences and stories compiled from other Kentucky Peace Corps volunteers.

6. Art Show
Come by the SAC and view art by fellow U of L students! There will be free food, giveaways from Cluckers, Bearno’s, the Province and more! The artwork displayed will depict various themes, including education, culture, ideas from “The Other Wes Moore” and health and well-being.
