Looking for a break from all the homework and stress? Going out to clubs is a way that one can mingle with friends, dance, relax, and have a good time. One bar/club in particular is “Jillians” on Barret Ave. “Jillians” has a night club called “Atlas” that offers a college night every Wednesday from 9:00p.m. to 3:30 a.m. You must be at least 19-years-old, which isn’t good news for most freshman. So, what’s the scene all about? Well, the music consists mostly of techno and current music. The transition from song to song is smooth, so you never miss a beat. The atmosphere is very fast-paced and fun. There are strobe lights, a large stage for concerts and/or dancing, a large dance floor, and packed bodies grooving to the tunes. Tons of people go, so parking can be a bummer. But the experience is worth the trouble. I asked around, trying to find people who haven’t had a good time at “Atlas”, but none were to be found. My friend Nicole Lear took some time out to tell us her take on the experience. “I go to ÔAtlas’ every week. The music is great, the atmosphere is fun, and I always run into somebody I know.”
If you are wondering what to wear… a t-shirt and jeans ISN’T the typical apparel. At “Jillian’s”, almost everyone gets decked out in their shiny, fancy, shimmery, or seductive club garb. A trip to Wet Seal, Contempo Casuals, or Gadzooks will probably do the trick. Even though college night is on Wednesdays, it is merely the kick-off for the weekend. “Atlas” has an acoustic night every Thursday that’s kind of like an “MTV Unplugged” experience. The hours are from 9:00p.m.-1:00a.m. and you must be 21 or over. On Friday and Saturday nights, they do the club thang again from 9:00p.m.-3:00a.m. and, once again, you must be 21.
With all of the cool stuff going on, it seems like you can’t go wrong at “Atlas”– even if you are under 21! Happy clubbing!
