In their sixth straight win and eighth total sweep, volleyball (13-5, 7-1) defeated Georgia Tech at home 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-19). The Cardinals now have more total wins than all last season and find themselves top three in ACC standings.

Jasmine Bennett lead the team with a .438 hitting percentage, nine kills and five blocks. Melanie McHenry and Amanda Green added 14 and 10 kills. Wilma Rivera had 32 assists and four aces.

“We came out with a ton of energy,” said coach Dani Busboom Kelly. “But the most impressive thing was that we made adjustments throughout the match and didn’t let the same thing beat us more than once.”

Louisville controlled the first set with a dominant .455 hitting percentage. Georgia Tech was in the negative for most of the game. The Cardinals did not look back after an early 7-0 lead and won easily 25-13.

The Yellow Jackets came out fighting in the second set. They cut down on errors and began to control the net, forcing the Cardinals to call several timeouts.

With Georgia Tech leading 21-15, Louisville then made a dramatic 10-0 run and won the second set. Jasmine Bennett had two powerful kills and Wilma Rivera aced to take the last three points.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair. There were six lead changes and 11 ties until the Cardinals came out in front at 16-15. From this point Louisville pulled away and took the set 25-19, winning the match.

Volleyball travels to Miami on Friday, October 20 to begin a three-game road trip.

“We’ll make some silly errors in big games that will cost you,” said Kelly. “We just have to improve every match and be low error.”
