Stickers promoting white supremacist group the Traditionalist Workers’ Party began appearing around campus on Feb. 6, including one outside the Cultural Center.

Students found additional stickers between the Stevenson and Humanities buildings and in the Floyd Garage elevator. It is unknown where the stickers came from.

“It is always disturbing and offensive to see white supremacist flyers or any other type of materials that denigrate or target certain groups on campus,” Vice Provost for Diversity and International Affairs Mordean Taylor-Archer said, “They depict and promote the worst qualities of humans and are contrary to our core values of diversity, inclusion and social justice. They are even more abhorrent and divisive during the current political climate with immigration ban and at a time when we should be celebrating Black History Month.”

The Traditionalist Workers’ Party is a white nationalist group that promotes white separatism and anti-Semitic rhetoric.

“The safety of our students is always our first priority, but I do not think the flyers are indicators that students, faculty and staff will be in harm’s way,” Taylor-Archer said.

Taylor-Archer and U of L spokesperson John Drees said faculty, students and staff should report these types of flyers or stickers on campus to ULPD.

“We send them copies so that they can investigate and check footage on cameras to see if the perpetrator(s) can be identified and apprehended,” Taylor-Archer said. “We also have a bias incident response team that is available to provide support to students who want to take further action.”

Peaceful protests and counter-demonstrations are being organized in response to the group’s April meeting in Pikeville.
