Coach Dan McDonnell and his Cardinals have earned the second seed in the NCAA tournament, the highest in program history. Louisville ended the year with a 47-12 (22-8) overall record and won the ACC Atlantic division.

Louisville, the hosting team, will face off against Western Michigan (22-32) Friday at 6 p.m. at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Broncos defeated top-seeded Kent State in the Mid-American Conference tournament to earn their bid.

The other two teams in the region are Ohio State, the two-seed, and Wright State, the three-seed. This game will take place Friday at 2 p.m.

The regional tournament is double-elimination – the champion from the losers’ bracket has to beat the champion from the winners bracket twice in order to advance. The championship game is set for Sunday, with game two set for Monday if needed.

If Louisville is able to make it out of the region, it will be the Cardinals’ third CWS berth in four years. McDonnell has led U of L to its only three CWS appearances in 2007, 2013 and 2014.
