There will be a run-off election for the spot of Academic Vice President due to a SGA election rule.

According to the 4.7.1 clause of the SGA Constitution, a candidate must receive 40 percent of the total vote to win. Unofficial winner Meredith Cooksey won 39.66 percent.

The run-off will be between the top two candidates, Cooksey and sophomore Vishnu Tirumala. Tirumala received 32.84 percent of the vote, which is 93 votes less than Cooksey.

Brandon McReynolds, arguing on behalf of Cooksey, said the margin between 39.66 and 40 percent is close enough to consider her the official winner. McReynolds also noted Cooksey did receive more votes than Tirumala.

The election will be open from Feb. 29 until 11:59 p.m. on March 2. To vote, visit ULink, go to the student services tab, find the ballots link on the right side and follow instructions.
