Travel around the world with SAB for a special night of celebration that is always a huge hit at U of L.  The 14th annual International Fashion Show, which celebrates world culture through fashion, will take place on Jan. 29.

This year’s theme is Clash of the Fashion Empires. The stunning event hosts a collection of fashions from all around the world being modeled by more than 100 students. Countries represented this year include Nigerian, India, Vietnam, South Korea, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka as well as many more.

The night will also feature some of U of L’s best performers. Of course, no event is complete without food, which will be catered by Ramsi’s Café on the World. Along with food, modeling and performances there will be clothing donations from various organizations.

Every year presents a new challenge for SAB members as they continually try to improve the event. “We felt the need to add more local stores, performances, student designers, and cultures in this year’s show,” said Karen Udoh, chair of the diversity committee of SAB. “We can’t wait for people to see how much the show has grown just from last year alone.”

The International Fashion Show tradition gives students and community members an opportunity to come together and celebrate the diverse culture of U of L and the surrounding Louisville area. “I feel that the International Fashion Show brings so many cultures together to embrace the beauty in diversity that the U of L community has,” said Udoh.

Last year, nearly 1,000 people attend the event and SAB expects to reach full capacity again this year. The show sold out last year so SAB is encouraging students to buy their tickets early. Students, faculty and staff can purchase pre-sale tickets for $5 in SAC W310 Jan. 19-28. At the door tickets are $7 for U of L students, faculty and staff and $8 for community members.

The event will take place in the SAC multipurpose room. The doors open and food will arrive at 7 p.m., so show up early for some pre-entertainment fun and mingling. The clash of the fashion empires will begin at 8 p.m.
