Mariya Moore sees the floor better than any player Jeff Walz has ever coached, and she found fellow sophomore Myisha Hines-Allen early and often during Louisville’s 88-66 win over UT-Martin on Monday at the KFC YUM! Center.

Moore finished with 11 points, nine assists and five rebounds while four of her first five assists were to Hines-Allen, who finished with a team-high 13 points.

“We play off each other very well,” Moore said. “When I see her (Hines-Allen) out of the corner of my eye, I know what block she is going to and I have to focus on how I pass it to her because if I get it to her in the right way she will finish.”

Last week against College of Charleston, Moore had a career-high 12 assists, upping her total to a team-high 64 assists.

“In my twenty years, she sees the floor as good, if not better than anyone I have ever coached,” Walz said. “She understands spacing, she understands how to get someone open.”

Louisville jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter and assisted on all of its first seven made field goals. But, UT-Martin (7-6) battled back and closed the deficit to one-point in the third quarter.

Leading 41-40, Louisville (8-5) went on an extended 21-4 run over a six minute span in the third quarter to seal their fifth consecutive victory.

Once again, Walz was critical of his team’s defense, but the young roster was able to lock in as the lead shrunk.

“It was a different mindset,” Moore said. “We were focused on getting stops and capitalizing on our opportunities.”

The Cardinals were able to capitalize off of UT-Martin’s mistakes, converting 24 turnovers into 40 points.

Six Cardinals scored in double-figures and nine of the ten who played scored.

Asia Durr scored 12 points in 24 minutes while fellow freshman Taja Cole tied her career-high with 11 points.

Cortnee Walton was a rebound away from her first career double-double, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds.

After winning seven of its last eight games, Louisville heads into ACC play on Friday against Florida State.

“We have to come to play, we have to execute,” Walz said. “We have to defend.”
