A media and special events RSO on campus is sponsoring a Halloween costume party Oct. 31 at the Red Barn. RedMedia hopes the “Slash Bash” will become a yearly event.

A monumental decade for the horror genre, the 1980s introduced us to “The Shining,” “Halloween,” “Nightmare on Elm Street” and other iconic slasher films. These horror movies still haunt our nightmares today.

RedMedia invites students to don heir best slasher costume Halloween night to celebrate the gruesome, gory and chilling films that defined horror as we know it.

“It was a very pivotal time for horror films to form into what they are today,” said Brelin Tilford, founder and president of RedMedia. He hopes to raise awareness for video projects and the film industry.

The Slash Bash runs from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. students are invited to experience the horror films of the 1980s.

Students can buy pre-sale tickets for $3 on Twitter and Instagram: @Redmedia01 and at the SAC during lunch. Tickets will also be available at the door, $5 for students and $10 for non-students.

During the event there will be a live DJ and a performance by Louisville Hip Hop artist BRXTN.

The night will highlight your favorite horror films. You should wear your favorite scary movie costume, but no masks are allowed. The best costume will win, Tilford said, “an awesome prize.”
