A U of L Brandeis School of Law student has died after being injured in a motorcycle accident on Sept. 15 on Watterson Expressway. Jeremy Woodruff, a second year student at the law school, died this morning after five days on life support at U of L Hospital.
Several people rallied to support Woodruff’s family, raising $18,050 in five days on a dedicated GoFundMe page. Several other students placed money in the Student Bar Association’s donation jar, while still others visited the hospital with home-cooked meals and gift cards.
After learning of Woodruff’s death this morning, law school dean Susan Duncan said in a statement to the school: “Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to (Woodruff’s) family, friends and loved ones.  I also know how difficult this is for all of you in our law school community.  I wish I could say something that would ease the pain and sorrow we are all feeling. There is no easy way to understand and accept the tragic loss of a life so filled with promise.”
“(W)e are a small unified community and I am so proud of the outpouring of support and love shown to Jeremy, his family, and each other,” said Assistant Dean for Student Services Jennifer DiSanza in an email to law students.
Alex Marks is a second-year law student. He said of Woodruff: “(H)e was always incredibly kind and well spoken. Having only met him a few times, it always brightened my day that he would  say ‘hi’ to me in the hallway and wish me luck before an interview. I wish I could have gotten to know him better.”
Woodruff was a 12-year veteran of the Marine Corps and served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. While a student at the law school, he worked for the law firm Herbert and Travis, PLLC. Woodruff is survived by his wife Ashley, his two-year-old daughter Savannah and his newborn son Max.
The Gofundme page is now closed to donations.

Woodruff’s visitation will take place Sept. 24, time to be decided. The funeral will take place on Sept. 25, time to be decided. In lieu of lowers, Woodruff’s wife has asked to set up a law school scholarship in his name for veterans.
