Yesterday at 12 p.m. the Cultural Center kicked off their 30 day celebration of Hispanic Heritage month. Food, flyers and the Macarena brightened the Bingham Humanities quad. If the booming Latin American music didn’t draw students to the two hour long dance party, the exaggerated movements and dresses of traditional Hispanic folk dance surely did. Students were snap chatting, tweeting and without much convincing, gave the traditional dance a try themselves.
In contribution to the month, the Cultural Center will be hosting a free three week film festival from September 17th- October 10th. Tomorrow they will air the first film, “Southern Zone,” or “Zona Sur,” at 5 p.m. in the Floyd Theater. The movies will be in Spanish, but will have English subtitles.
The following shows this week are:
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20. 4:00 P.M., ELAINE CHAO AUDITORIUM
Florence Jaugey, Nicaragua, 2011
