After weeks of organized action by student group Cards United Against Sweatshops, the University has decided not to renew its licencing agreement with clothing manufacturer Jansport, according to an email posted on CUAS’s Facebook page.

The license would come up for renewal in June, but U of L and its partners determined that it would not renew based on worker’s rights, finances, and design.

The student group has been pushing for this decision all year, and the university agreed to end contracts with all companies who did not sign the Bangladesh Fire Safety Accord.

Jansport and its parent company VF were not a part of the university’s agreement, so were not affected by the decision.  Because of this, the call for action became louder as the group occupied Grawemeyer Hall for five days at the end of April.

This is a developing story.
