This is a clarification of yesterday’s brief.

The U of L medical school, which was placed on probation in March, has had its Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development program taken off of probationary status by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

According to the medical school’s dean, Dr. Toni Ganzel, this is distinct from the probationary status given by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which occurred because of issues with preclinical instruction space and curriculum.

“Our action plan was approved and we have a date for our follow up focused site visit of May 10 through 13,” she said. “The site visit report will go to the LCME at its October 2015 meeting for a decision regarding lifting the probation status.”

Matthew Woeste, president of the medical school’s class of 2017, said that the school was excited to have the continuing education program taken off of probation, and that he is hopeful that the LCME will also lift their probation.

“All of us at the medical school are looking forward to when our accrediting body, the LCME, has its site visit this coming summer,” said Woeste. “We are confident and anticipating the lifting of our probationary status of our medical school, next fall.”

The ACCME will reevaluate the continuing education program in 2017.
