The University of Louisville men’s basketball team improved to 3-0 on the year with an 85-67 victory over Marshall at the KFC YUM! Center on Friday night.

All five Cardinal starters scored in double figures, but the team struggled shooting throughout the night.

Louisville shot just 38.6 percent from the field, including 3-of-22 from three.

Chris Jones led all scorers with 18 points and added five assists, but was 5-of-18 from the field.

Fellow backcourt mate Terry Rozier scored 17 points on 5-of-16 shooting.

“Our guards didn’t play like veterans tonight because they were too effected by their missed shots,” Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said.

Montrezl Harrell played a season low 24 minutes after picking up his fourth foul early in the second half.  The junior forward finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, but Chinanu Onuaku and Mangok Mathiang played well in his absence.

Onuaku registered his second career double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.  Mathiang added 11 rebounds and four points.

“I thought Chinanu and Mangok were both very focused on doing their job and they both did an excellent job,” Pitino said.

Wayne Blackshear set the tone in the first half, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the first twenty minutes.

The Cardinals will face Savannah State Monday night at the KFC YUM! Center.
