The Students for Justice in Palestine’s “Night for Palestine” event educated and entertained attendees on Palestinian culture and issues this past Friday evening.

The program included an informative presentation of the current situation in Palestine, live music, authentic Palestinian cuisine, and entertainment  provided by Palestinian stand-up comedian  Eman El-Husseini. The night was thoroughly enjoyed by all as they were treated to an experience of rich culture and real issues.

Students for Justice in Palestine’s motive is to absolve the vast ignorance there is on the subject of Palestinian upheaval; in order to do this SJP is working hard to put on events that raise awareness and funds for turmoil in Palestine.

“In 1948, the U.N. gave part of Palestinian land to Holocaust survivors,” said S.J.P. member Rawdha Malik. “The issue is that a lot of Palestinians were driven from their lands. Their homes and livelihoods were diminished; a lot of them were murdered as well. They were either left for dead or without a home. So it’s just common sense, and it’s also human rights, if you’re a human being and you have any sense of moral you should care about that.”

Night for Palestine was one such event SJP used to achieve this goal. Funds for this particular evening were sent to M.E.C.A., a non-profit charity that sends humanitarian support to Palestine.
