Brooklyn’s eight-piece collective, Red Baraat, shook the Belvedere last Friday at Worldfest. The band has toured extensively in celebration of their new album, “Shruggy Ji,” but they are no strangers to the Derby City, having played Headliners in February with Louisville’s latin-fusion group, Appalatin. Heavy on the brass, Red Baraat melds Afro-Cuban rhythms and North Indian tones with spastic urgency. The bustling horns and percussion speak for themselves, though the players will momentarily approach the mic with Hindi lyrics and the occasional English verse. Their set drew hundreds to the main stage, people of all ages and color dancing to the same beat. In definition, Red Baraat had captured the true spirit of Worldfest.
