It’s easy to question the validity of awards shows. Selected winners are considered “the best,” which is usually a misled label for “most popular.” Then, sometimes an awards show gets it right. The Louisville Music Awards, LMA, in its first year will have that chance to highlight Louisville’s successful talent using a democratic approach.

Collecting nominees was a true Louisville effort. In July, the LMAs encouraged music fans to nominate their favorite local musicians and contributors in nine different categories. WFPK announced the finalists last Wednesday, and the results were a very Louisville response (see finalist box). Come to Headliners Music Hall next Monday, Sept. 23 to find out who takes home the prize: a hand-blown award from Hyland Glass and the glory of being named “Best this year.”  This event also kicks off the 13th annual IdeaFestival , taking place – as always – at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
