Imagine being in class and having to play tic-tac-toe with a friend instead of playing draw something on your phone. Imagine using a landline to call up a friend in another dorm to go eat at the Ville Grill. Imagine having to handwrite papers for a writing class if printers weren’t a common luxury. Believe it or not, some of these everyday necessities didn’t even exist a few years ago.

In 2012, computer usage is centered around Facebook-creeping instead of essay writing. In 2022, imagine how much different college is going to be. How did students get by with just staying on social media sites to stay distracted? Did students really take tests by filling out sheets of paper? If the students at U of L were to create a time capsule, there are five things that would definitely need to be included.

1. Blue Books/Scantrons

What would college be without these? College would be great because that would mean there would be no tests. But, face it: any time test day rolls around, students scramble to make it to the bookstore in time before a test in order to grab the appropriate test-taking sheets. As much as college students hate seeing Scantrons and Blue Books, they are actually a large part of the college experience.

2. Air Louie
This fun inflatable bounces around during time-out and helps get the crowd excited during basketball games. Air Louie already seems pretty incredible, with all those head bounces and that smooth walk that could be mistaken for Louie floating on air. What will be the token mascot of U of L in 10 years?

3. iPhone

Whether you are listening to music, playing Draw Something, texting your friends or recording a lecture, the iPhone is pretty much a magic wand for college students. This device alone could be buried in a time capsule itself and would provide a great representation of college life.

4. Those giant heads
These things are iconic in the student section. Right now, there’s no better way to pay tribute to a basketball team than by enlarging the faces of the star players and hoisting them in the air for everyone to see.

5. Infrared jerseys
When the basketball team walked out of the tunnel at Madison Square Garden, it was as if the team was dressed for a highlighter party. These jerseys have also become iconic with U of L, despite the short time that the team has been wearing them. What will the jerseys be like in a few years? These infrared jerseys have been very beneficial to the team; they are light in weight and bright in color. Imagine with all these advancements, how the jerseys in a few years will be an even bigger benefit to players.
